What is AirCon Regassing?

If your car’s air conditioning is not working as it should you may notice an “old socks” smell when you start up? If that’s the case, or you notice the temperature is not as it should be, your vehicle’s air-conditioning could be faulty. And if it stops working entirely it’s odds on that you may require a regas.

The air conditioning system in your vehicle plays an important part in keeping you cool in the summer. It also helps to improve the air quality inside your vehicle. This is important when driving in heavy traffic or on very hot days when pollution spikes. So when warm air comes out of the air vents when you turn it on in warm or hot weather your going to notice it and it will make a real difference to your comfort levels while out in the car.

The good news is that keeping your air conditioning system in tip-top shape isn’t difficult or expensive. Our latest article explains “what is aircon regassing” and the benefits to you and your vehicle.

What is AirCon Regassing?

What is regassing?

Put simply, Aircon regassing is the process of removing the old refrigerant gas from your air conditioning system and replacing it with new refrigerant gas.

If you notice that the  air-con system isn’t blowing as cold as it should do then regassing is probably the solution. It’s not really one of those jobs you can do yourself as specialist equipment is needed for testing and the regas process itself. You can purchase aircon regas kits on the internet. But they’re almost as expensive as getting an expert to do it for you. The refrigerant gas can be damaging to skin so needs to be handled very carefully. Not only that, if something goes wrong you could damage the system and then you’re looking at whole heap more money to fix that.

So always use a reputable garage to investigate the issues and carry out aircon regassing. It doesn’t take long and the team at Rayner Bosch are experts at AirCon Regassing.

We will fully diagnose the issue as it may not be the gas that needs replacing, it could be something else like a leak or a faulty part. Regardless of the issue, we’ll get to the root of the problem and suggest the right fix for you.

Top signs you need AirCon Regassing

  • Strange smell on start up
  • Warm rather than cool air being blown out of the vents
  • A weak air flow no matter how high you turn the dial up
  • It doesn’t demist your windscreen effectively
  • Aircon makes strange noises
  • Excessive leakage of refrigerant under the vehicle

What happens if I don't get a regas?

If you don’t regas the air-conditioning system, over time it will become less efficient. This makes a difference in hot weather as it won’t cool the interior of the vehicle down sufficiently and it will make driving uncomfortable for everyone in the vehicle. It also has an impact in colder weather as an inefficient system will not demist your windscreen properly. This can prolong the length of a journey or create dangerous driving conditions.

If you don’t regas your air-conditioning system, this can have a detrimental effect on the system as a whole. With poor functioning you’re less inclined to use it. As a result pipes are likely to crack and parts are likely to seize up leading to even more costly repairs. So it’s also best to get it sorted as soon as you recognise an issue.
